What is Green?
Many product and businesses claim to be green, but are they really? Use common sense and the help of independent certification programs to make sound decisions that cut through the marketing hype. Certification provides independent, third-party verification that materials and practices meet the highest green performance standards. Look for these green product seals:
Cradle to Cradle Certification Cradle to Cradle Certification means the product has been evaluated by a proprietary process and identified as a product “designed for total recycling and reuse.”
energy star certification ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy designed to identify products that help consumers save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices.
US Green Building Council “The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is a 501(c)(3) non profit composed of leaders from every sector of the building industry working to promote buildings and communities that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work.”
